Spider

Q: I cannot find a picture of this spider anywhere...can you tell me what it is?

A: Wow, what a great spider! I can't be sure of the exact species, but I believe it is the genus Nephila and may be the Golden Silk Spider (Nephila clavipes). This is a large spider - the female is much larger than the male - found in the southern U.S. that makes a large web up to one meter is size. This particular species has tufts of hair on its legs (you may need to look closely to see this) and I believe those dark areas on its legs are the places to look .
