Egg Ball? Revisited

Q: Thanks John for the reply. I had previously read the reference you cited which led me to believe they might be amphibean eggs. I also wanted you to see the photos that didn't transmit on my original question, since they may be a visual reference for other viewers/inquirer's. I resized the photos and applied text of my observations. I also want to note that I have seen carp navigating the area where the egg masses were located. FYI, I shot these images with a Fujifilm S8000 digital camera.

State: Arkansas

Habitat: pond/lake

A: Great shots!!!! Thanks so much for sharing.

This is the bryozoan colony as we've thought. Nice for you to have been able to see it, handle it and photograph it - you're sure to know this organism from now on.

I don't think Carp have anything to do with the bryozoans you found though. Carp spawn in spring and simply cast their eggs at random in the plants in shallow water - definitely not a Carp egg mass. These fish must simply be finding food near the same location.

Thanks again for sharing.
