Is this a termite?

Q: Hello,
This is second insect I am finding in my basement. I am wondering is it a termite? If not what it is?

A: From what I can tell from your great photos, these are indeed termites. I'm more familiar with those that are white so their dark coloration threw me off a bit but I'm wondering if this animal is one of the winged adults that has dropped its wings? The reproductive, winged males are often heavily pigmented.
It's possible that a few individuals got into your basement accidentally, but I'd be really thorough about looking around to see if there are others. If you see others or continue to see one now and then, I'd assume the worst and consider having some kind of pest control brought in.
