baby robin

Q: I had someone bring me a baby robin. I figured that the parents were probably still feeding, but since this person felt they needed to save it I didn't know what to say. Anyway feeding this bird is a great responsiblity. My question is can I feed it softened bird cereal? See I have a African Grey and lovebirds and in thier seed diets are cereal like pellets as well. This baby was found in a street gutter.

A: It sound to me that this baby may have been in a dangerous area but the adults were most likely taking care of it. Take a look at our baby bird resource and see if this helps with initial care. Check out www.enaturalist.org In the future, although your friend means well, be sure to tell them that in almost ALL cases, wildlife should be left just as it is. Best of luck to you.
