Q: How often do crawfish molt?

A: A variety of environmental factors affect molting so the intervals between molts can vary considerably from one area to another. For those young hatching in the spring, there are from 6 to 10 molts before autumn when both growth and molting cease. Once spring arrives and growth begins again, molting also resumes. The life-span of a crayfish is typically about 20 months although in some cases they can and do live longer.
