Q: Could you please identify this spider? We photographed it on the side of our house last year, and its green and metallic silver coloring are spectacular! It's hard to remember the exact size, but I believe it was approximately 1" to 1-1/2 " in diameter.

A: Thank you so much for the photo - an enormous help. Your spider is an Orchard Spider, genus Leucauge, but I'm not sure of the species. This spider spins an orb web and is most common in wooded areas. A truly beautiful spider. Take a look at this website- bugguide.net for a great photo of this genus. Thanks for sharing.
