Pink & Yellow Moth

Q: My wife got these pictures of a moth on our cabin this morning and I was wondering if you cold identify it for us. I've never seen one with this coloration before, Thank you.

A: That's really an impressive moth, isn't it? Thanks for sending the photos. You had a Rosy Maple Moth (Dryocampa rubicunda). This is a reasonably common moth in eastern forests whose larvae feed mostly on maple leaves. There is a good photo of this colorful moth at bugguide.net
