Q: Can you hatch a egg without an incubator? Where can I purchase a incubator? Currently, we have the egg wrapped in cotton balls and is using a desk lamp as a heat source.

Thanks,

Ashton

A: A bird's egg needs to be kept quite warm if it is to develop so you really need an incubator to provide the necessary warmth. Incubators can be purchased from companies that supply schools with educational equipment. If you're going to try and hatch chicken eggs, be sure that you get fertile eggs - those in most stores are infertile. Your desk lamp "incubator" is a creative idea but I really doubt you'll be able to keep the egg at the necessary temperature or at the correct humidity level to keep the embryo alive.
