solid grey baby snake

Q: My friend and I were raking leaves and found two baby snakes. The snakes were under a wet pile of leaves. They are slender and about 8 to 12in long. They are solid grey with a pinkish tan belly. They look alot like an earthworm. Can you tell me what kind of snakes these are and are they dangerous, since I am sure the moma snake and probably more babies may be around . Thank you.

A: From your description and location, it sounds to me that you found two Eastern Worm Snakes. These snakes were adults, not babies, and are totally harmless. Actually, many people never get to see these snakes because they're quite secretive. Worm snakes never get very large, 7-11", and feed on earthworms and other small critters. You can google this animal and see if you can find some photos to confirm my identification.
Thanks for asking.
