Squirels and rabbits

Q: I think I saw a squirl rabbit cross, one of my friends says it's impossible, but the creature climbed up a tree back legs dangling, it had a squirel front and a bunny back!!! Could, I be right?

A: I'm afraid that your friend is right - you didn't see a squirrel/rabbit cross. I realize that you saw something that LOOKED like that but at times, if we don't get a good look at an animal, it can mislead us into thinking we saw something quite different than what it is. The clincher would probably be its tail and the fact that it climbed a tree. Did it have a long tail? If its tail was long and it climbed a tree, I'm quite certain it was a squirrel although a squirrel could lose part or even all of its tail in an accident. Squirrels are rodents and rabbits are not so a combination between these two is just not going to produce young. Thanks for asking and I hope this settles your question.
