crested ducks

Q: is it possible for some one to tell weather a crested duck egg carries both of the crested genes?

State: Missouri

A: I suppose IF someone were to look at the DNA of the embryo it's possible, but that would be the "high tech" route so that wouldn't be an option for you.

Sounds to me that one of your ducks is a Crested Duck and the other is not? If this is the case,it will be interesting to see what the babies are like. Keep in mind that genetics is a complex issue and the fact that the babies have some Crested Duck genes in their body doesn't necessarily mean they will look like that domestic variety. I don't know your grade level but I believe you'll have some genetics in 10th grade biology that will help you understand this process - it's quite interesting.

Best of luck to you and your birds.
