Blue Birds

Q: I live in Northwest Arkansas.Jan. 29th I saw two blues birds in my yard. This is earlyer then I have seen them before.Isn't this unusual? Had any other siteings in this area? Net]xt day the temp was below 30 and 3" of snow has fallen. Just curious. tks

A: Actually, the Eastern Bluebird both nests and winters in throughout the entire state of Arkansas. Although the E. Bluebird nests as far north as southern Canada, some individuals can be found regularly wintering as far north as southern Missouri, southern Ohio and southeastern Pennsylvania and some even farther north. So, although it probably isn't common to see these birds in your area during the winter months, they are not really outside their normal range. During this time of year they tend to move around a lot looking for food so you may see them for a time and then they'll be gone. Hope this helps answer your question satisfactorily.
