Snake

Q: Hello,

I was just wondering if you could identify a snake for me? This snake had a shiny, sleak, solid black top with a dark green stripped under belly and about a meter stick long. Any way for me he looked really big. Skinny of corse but long in length. I found the creature in Muskegon. As for habitat i'm really not sure. It would really be helpful if i could find out some information about it. I hope this new information helps. Thanks for all your help. I'll be in touch.

State: Michigan

A: The only two large, solid-colored snakes in Michigan are the Black Rat Snake and the Blue Racer. The Black Rat is more-or-less solid black on top with a white-and-black checkered belly, and can grow to more than 2 meters in length. The Blue Racer is grayish-blue on top with a light bluish to cream belly; a large racer will be less than 2 meters in length. The rat snake typically freezes when encounter, moving away slowly, while the racer flees immediately and rapidly (hence the name.)

Here is a good place for more info about snakes in Michigan

Hope this helps.
