Spiders

Q: Hi

I am keeping a wolf spider as a pet. It is about 2 inches wide and I have a problem on what to feed my pet and how often he needs to be fed ?

If there are more useful tips I will be glad to hear from you.

Thanks alot.

Ahmad

A: Wolf Spiders are opportunists feeding on pretty much whatever is available. If I had your animal, I'd be providing flies (remove wings first), grasshoppers, crickets, and other soft-bodied bugs. Your spider is an ectotherm which means it is the temperature of its surroundings so it won't need as much food as a warm-blooded animal. If your food items are rather large, I should think that an insect every 2 or 3 days would be quite sufficient for your pet. I'll bet your local pet store has an inexpensive booklet on spiders and their care that should be helpful. Best of luck.
