Tree Frog?
Posted by Jerry Martin on August 28, 2006
Q: My wife found a frog on our porch just sitting there it was green/grayish purple two tone the underneath of it was lighter grey with a yellow stripe that ran inside the legs. The skin was very bumpy like that of a toads. The unique thing about this is it appeared to have three toes that allowed it to walk up walls or what ever surface it wanted to. I did not touch it do to the fact that I didn't know if it would endanger it by getting my hand oils on it. We do have Pictures though they are blurry and detail is not that great. Ask we will make them accessable via web server
This was found after a heavy down pour the the previous night at around dusk

A: Thanks for your description and photos. Although the photos were a bit blurry, I believe I know what your animal was. I think you've had a Gray Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor) on your porch. These little frogs have toe pads that allow them to climb about vertical surfaces as they look for insects. Check out this website and see a closeup of your animal at vernalpools.rtpi.org
Tree frogs are wonderful little animals and it's probable that the rain you described brought your animal out to look for food. Lucky you that you got to see this animal that we often don't get to see since it's active mostly at night. Thanks for sharing.
