Q: Can you pleeeaaase identify a baby snake that my Mother found in our den today???!!! It is a very light copper/tanish solid color except for the head, which is black, almost rectangular in shape with the tanish color as a stripe sort of across where the nose is or just above the nose?

A: Sounds like a Southeastern Crowned Snake (Tantilla coronata) to me. This is a small (8-10") snake that is totally harmless and is found in a variety of habitats. Not sure how it ended up in your home but these secretive snakes are able to get into small cracks and crevices so may have entered your home looking for a nice place to hide. Thanks for sharing.
