Q: my daughter found in her sons room spiders that when they are small are orange with a v shape mark thats tan in color on their backs and when they are bigger (if its the same type) are orange and have 2 horn like things on their lower backs. we live in north dakota and after describing it to entomology they had no idea. Any Ideas on what kind of spider this is and if they are venomous????

A: Keep in mind that ALL spiders are venomous but only a couple are dangerous! From your description, I'd say you have one of the Micrathena spiders. These spiders have hard abdomens that have little horn-like projections on them. There are many different kinds of these spiders that come in various colors, patterns, and shapes but you may be able to come close to the species you've observed by googling them. Hope this helps.
