what is the water requirement per day

Q: HI,
I want to know about the what is the exact water requirement for a plant per day in what way we can know the requirement of water for a particualr plant.
A: I believe this can be determined by covering the above-ground portion of a plant with a plastic bag and recording all of the water that is released through transpiration on a given day. My guess is that there are some very detailed ways biologists use to find out this information but you could get an estimate by doing this yourself with the bag. As you probably already know, each plant and each species will have a different requirement based on many different factors. Just one factor that can influence your findings would be a very sunny, hot day versus a cool, cloudy day - transpiration would be dramatically different! Hope this helps.
