baby snake

Q: i found this snake this morning on my drive way and couldn't think of what kind it its. it has the markings of a bull snake. you know that ban behind their head. but its only 4 inches long. do you happen to know what kind it is?

A: This is a recently born Texas Brown Snake. The band behind the head is characteristic of young individuals of this subspecies of Brown Snake. It fads with age. Here is a link with an image:

Brown Snakes are small, fairly common harmless snakes. They consume mostly slugs and earthworms, but will also eat arthropods, salamanders, frogs and other small vertebrates.
