eggs

Q: My uncle was fixing our yard when he found four small white eggs about an inch long. They were under some sod and they have some craks in them. I don't know what kind of eggs they are or if they still have a chance at life. Please help. I would like them to live if they can. P.S. ( we have a lake in our backyard we have aligaters, turtles, lizzards, and birds. )

State: Florida

Habitat: suburban/yard

A: Thanks for your P.S. extra info - helpful.

I really can't give you much help with an identification on these eggs without much more information but it sounds like they're reptile eggs, not bird eggs. If the shells are not hard (chicken's have a hard eggshell) but are a bit leathery and can easily be dented, then it's very likely they're from one of the reptiles in your area. You have Anoles and turtles as well as other reptiles in your area that could have left these eggs so not possible to know who did it. Knowing just how to incubate these eggs is not easy/possible so why not return them to their original location so the normal process can continue? Good luck.
