What do baby sparrows eat?

Q: I found a baby sparrow in the back yard. It to young to fly yet.
It seems to be healthy because it's quite active.
Until it can fly or until I can bring it to someone who can take care of it. What can I feed it?

A: It's most likely that you found a fledgling sparrow. As baby birds gain maturity, they leave the nest and although are still being fed by their parents, hop about shrubs and low trees as they gradually become good fliers. Please return your bird to the location in which it was found so its parents can care for it. Your handling of the baby won't affect its parents' behavior so don't worry about that. The sooner your bird is returned, the better.
