frogs in above ground pool

Posted by Linda Tague on June 26, 2006

Q: I have discovered 6 frogs in my above ground pool skimmer. The pool, deck and ladder are currently all off the ground. How do the frogs get in the pool. Also no tree limbs over pool

Thanks

State: Virginia

A: I don't know what kind of frogs are in your pool so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage to figure out what's going on. If the frogs are tree frogs (these frogs have small toe pads), they're very capable of crawling up the sides of your pool and ending up in the water. If they're Green or Leopard Frogs, for example, then I'm a bit unsure. Certainly frogs can climb around on various objects but crawling up a vertical wall of your pool doesn't sound quite as easy for non-tree frogs. Of course, frogs are attracted to water so will probably be drawn to your pool in the future too. I'm sure the chemicals in the pool are hard on their bodies and probably does them in rather quickly.

Why not google tree frogs and see if these guys look like what you're finding? If they are tree frogs, your mystery is solved. Good luck and I hope this helps.
