Q: we have a luch garden at work appox. 25 acres wtith lots of water features we found a tan snake aprox 3 to 4 foot long had a dark brown head with blotches of dark color along the back with a light pink belly the snake it self was pretty thin what do you think this may be thanks in advance

State: Florida

Habitat: suburban/yard

A: Snakes can be really difficult to identify but I can give you a probable species. Sounds to me that you interacted with a Florida Water Snake(Nerodia fasciata). This snake does have a reddish or pinkish coloration on its belly and is also a rather aggressive snake when threatened. Take a look at photos of this snake online but keep in mind that they can and do vary in color and pattern to a certain extent so it may not look exactly like yours. Thanks for asking and I hope this helps.
