Jail Break

Q: What do baby birds have on their bills that helps them break out of their eggs?

State: Massachusetts

A: Baby birds have a small bump on the end of their bill called an "egg tooth". This is not a real tooth but is part of the bird's beak that is used to help the baby break out of its eggshell. Within a few days of hatching, this egg tooth just falls off. Thanks for a good question.
