Hummingbird

Q: I just put a hummingbird feeder in my yard , I have never had one before. I do I get them to come to the feeder?
Habitat: suburban/yard
State: Florida
Habitat: suburban/yard
A: The birds will do it themselves. Hummingbirds are all the time looking around for a food source so if you have hummers in your area, you should be visited eventually. Be sure your feeder is prominently displayed and that the food inside is reasonably fresh ( it can get moldy if too old). Since you're in Florida, I'd try to hang the feeder where it won't get the worst of the afternoon sun and heat up a lot; maybe under the canopy of a large tree? Probably the most important ingredient in this is having suitable habitat for the hummingbird in the first place. The more natural and "planted" your home area, the more likely that hummingbirds are using your area - concrete, asphalt, and grassy lawns just don't make it. Best of luck, they're really enjoyable.
