Q: I'm taking a naturalist course at the Warren Conservation District and can't find the definition of this term...

allelopathy. What is it please?

A: Allelopathy is a chemical process that a plant uses to keep other plants from growing too close to it. Some plants that use allelopathy are black walnut trees, sunflowers, wormwoods, goldenrods, sagebrushes, and trees of heaven. Hope this helps. Best to you with your studies.
