Q: we live just outside of town, and have hogs in a pen back of the house. we have found a bullsnake in the house. how do we find where they are and how do we get rid of them? we have had them in the basement before but never upstairs and now they are coming into the main floor of the house

Habitat: field/meadow

A: One of a snakes' best adaptations is its ability to get into cracks and crevices - your house must seem like heaven to them. I can certainly understand that you don't want snakes in your house but do keep in mind that they're looking for rodents and won't hurt you. If you're willing, get a long stick with a bit of a hook on the end and simply catch the snake with this and take it outside. If you can place the snake near the barns with the hogs (NOT with the hogs as they'll kill it if they can)your snake will be an ally to help keep rodent populations down. If your home has lots of places where a snake can crawl in, try to seal these up and this should reduce/eliminate your visitors. Hope this helps.
