Pine Parenthood

Posted by Lori Kulczycki on April 9, 2006

Q: We recently moved from Long Island, NY to Central Florida on the east coast side and miss our pine trees terribly. Is there any pine tree that can withstand the hot Florida weather and survive? Thanks for any help.

A: There sure are, but not the same species that you knew in NY. The species that thrive in Florida include Long Leaf Pine, Pond Pine, Loblolly Pine, Sand Pine and Slash Pine. Your local nursery should have some pines available and be able to give you particulars on which species will grow best in your location. I can certainly understand your desire to have some of your familiar trees with you in your new home. Thanks for asking and I hope you can get some nice pines to remind you of NY trees.
