Q: hello i have a small pond in my yard and just started to clean the water out i found jelly balls with black dots in them behind a rock in my pond i have fish and frogs and turtles in my pond i wanted to know what these were they are bright white about as big as a soft ball with black dots they feel like jello

A: You have amphibian eggs! I can't be entirely sure what species but it's likely that you have Wood Frog eggs or maybe even Spotted Salamander eggs. Keep an eye on them and you should be able to see their development. If they're Wood Frogs, the tadpoles will feed on algae but if they're salamanders (they'll have front legs and exposed gills), they'll be eating little creepy-crawlies. They shouldn't be any problem for your other animals. If you can leave some leaves and debris in the bottom, they will have more places for these guys to hide in and more kinds of food too.
