crayfish

Q: My crayfish has been moving around alot of rocks and made a bowl-like ditch in a secluded area of the fish tank. Does this mean it is going to lay eggs?

A: I'm no crayfish behavior expert but I don't think this means eggs are on the way. It seems more reasonable to me that your crayfish is simply rearranging the "furniture" in its tank. Crayfish like to have an out-of-the-way place to spend the day and this helps to keep them safe from predators. Your crayfish probably is more at ease with the arrangement it has made. Kind of neat that a crayfish would be able to do this on their own, isn't it? Keep an eye on your animal and if eggs are produced, you'll know for sure - time will tell! Thanks for asking.
