Antlers vs. Horns

Posted by Krissy Smith on August 20, 2003

Q: Last weekend I went hunting with my husband and I shot what appeared to be a buck. It had very unique horns that were just awesome. It turned out that it wasn't a buck at all, it was a doe.

Is this unusual? Is this due to some kind of hormone unbalance?

A: Yes, it is unusual but does happen. It is most likely a homonal imbalance that has caused some male secondary sex characteristics to appear in your female deer.
