Pine Parenthood

Q: Does the ponderosa pine or lodgepole pine need fire to help germinate the seeds?
A: Neither of these pines requires fire to help open the cones or germinate the seeds. The Lodgepole Pine may hold on to its seeds for years before opening and releasing them but fire is not necessary to initiate this process. Thanks for your question.
