possum

Q: I have a large possum that comes up on porch and walks around looking for food. Will they bite? how do I get rid of them?
State: New Jersey
A: An Opossum will bite if you try to pick it up or corner it but otherwise it will do its best to stay away from you. Opossums are quite common around homes and outbuildings but rarely pose any problems. If you really are uncomfortable and feel a need to remove this animal, I'd get a have-a-heart trap and catch your animal and remove it many miles away. If you have dogs that are out in the evening/at night, I'd be careful they don't get involved with your Opossum as it will certainly bite them in defense. Hope this helps.
