lights and earthworms

Q: Why are earthworms sensitive to light and for what reasons (dealing with their anatomy)?

A: Sensitivity to light probably allows worms to avoid coming to the surface of the soil during the daytime when there are many predators around. Earthworms often crawl out on the soil's surface at night and under cover of darkness are much less vulnerable to predators. Seems like a good adaptation to me for survival. Thanks for asking.
