Pine Parenthood

Q: Last week I collected 3 types of pine cones from the ground at our campsite in the El Dorado National Forest.

I have identified two of them as

a sugar pine and a Ponderosa Pine.

The last one I believe it a Tamarack pine cone.

Can I grow these pine cones? If so, what do I need to do?

The Tamarack pine ( I think) already has green needles coming out of the top of the small soft pine cone.

Thanks in advance!

A: Please take a look at the two questions at the bottom of the page Pine Parenthood is on. This will give you some basics to get started.

Tamaracks (or larch) also have cones but they too have seeds within the cone that need to be planted. Be sure you have mature (brown and dried looking) cones and not green ones, to obtain seeds.
