Ivory-Billed Woodpecker

Q: What is the reason for the ivory-billed woodpecker's endangerment?
A: It's basically habitat destruction that has endangered this woodpecker. Much of the old forests were cut for logging and farmland removing this vital habitat for Ivory-bills. Fortunately, some was not completely destroyed and has allowed a few birds to survive. Some species are especially vulnerable to habitat changes while others are more adaptable and not as affected when change occurs. Those that can adapt to change are still with us in good numbers (Canada Goose is a good example) while others like the Ivory-billed Woodpecker are really knocked for a loop.
Thanks for your question.
