Pine Parenthood

Q: where do pine cones come from.
A: Although pine trees don't have flowers as we think of flowers (no pretty colors or nice smells), they do have them. In the spring the pollen from male flowers fertilizes the female flowers and they begin to grow into pine cones. This takes two growing seasons before the cones are ready to release their seeds. As the cones dry up, the little scales on the cones open up and the seeds simply fall out.
Thanks for your question.
