Pine Parenthood

Q: Do pine cones need sunlight?

A: My answer is "yes" and "no". Since pine cones grow on pine trees, the tree itself needs sunlight to produce the energy for growth of each cone. But once the pine cones are grown, the cones don't need sunlight at all. Fully grown pine conesn dry up and then release their seeds over time and eventually drop off of the tree.

Hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking.
