rhino beetles

Q: When were rhino beetles introduced to northwest arkansas? We found some there this summer, I had never seen them there before. The bats love to eat them. We have a full exoskeleton of one. It is strange to see them there.

Habitat: suburban/yard

A: There are many different kinds of native Rhinocerous Beetles in North America. They're often called Hercules or Elephant Beetles too so you can look them up using these names or the name of the family (Scarabaeidae)to find the exact species you've seen. You may very well have an introduced beetle but I'm guessing it's simply a native one you haven't seen before. They certainly are impressive animals! Thanks for sharing.
