A: For the most part, a naturalist is a good "generalist" when it comes to nature - they need to know about all kinds of different animals, plants, and relationships. Having a broad understanding of animals and plants is important because they all work together in any natural setting. There are a few schools that offer courses in environmental education (I believe the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan is one)in the United States but a well-rounded education in biology anywhere(be sure to take courses like entomology, ornithology, mammalogy, botany, ecology, etc.) will do much to prepare you for what you need.
Depending on where you live, it would be helpful to talk with someone who works with animals or works at a nature preserve nearby. If you talk firsthand with someone about your interests, they should be able to give you some good suggestions about what you need to take in school and what kinds of jobs are available. Good luck to you and I wish you well. Thanks for asking.
