Q: I would like to know where can I easily find a "Norway Spruce" seed that's good for planting. Also,I want to know how long does it take for it to grow at least a foot tall.
THANK YOU
A: Although there must be some source of spruce seeds available, I'm not familiar with any. Almost everyone that plants spruce, obtain potted plants rather than seeds. However, if you do want to go the "seed route" I'd collect some mature Norway Spruce cones in the fall, let them dry and overwinter in a cold place (an unheated garage is a good place) and then plant the seeds in the spring. I'm sure someone with spruce in their yard would be happy to allow you to collect cones. How long it will take to grow a foot is difficult to say since many variables will affect growth. But, I think within 2-3 years, under good conditions, you should have a 1 foot tree. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
